The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall is truly that—with high kicks, Santa and 3D

NEW YORK — There is nothing like the holiday season in New York City. You can feel the holiday magic by visiting the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, by holiday shopping or by seeing various holiday shows. One of the best holiday shows is The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring The Rockettes (a world renowned group of precision dancers).

This season was the 81st year of the Christmas Spectacular show. Every year this group performs more than 200 shows in a season at the famous Radio City Music Hall. This reporter had a chance to experience the Christmas Spectacular. As the name suggests, the show was truly spectacular.

The show starts with the grand entry of the Rockettes as Santa’s reindeer who are eager to make a special flight to NYC. Then comes Santa on his sleigh entering into the Radio City Music Hall. Special 3D effects put the audience right into Santa’s sleigh. This is followed by a Christmas carol and the amazing performances by the Rockettes. The best scene was Santa’s video game, where the Humbugs have kidnapped the toys from Santa’s workshop and the Rockettes go on a magical adventure to save Christmas.

You also have an option of taking a behind-the-scenes tour where you explore the architectural details of the hall, the mechanics of the stage and get to meet a Rockette and discover what it takes to be a star performer.

Though the holiday season is over and the last show of the Christmas Spectacular was on Dec. 30, you can still visit Radio City Music Hall and experience their other live theater productions running throughout the year. And you can go to the great Christmas show next year.
