‘The Desolation of Smaug’ improves on first Hobbit movie with more exciting adventure

On Dec. 13, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” came out. This major motion picture is the second in a series of three movies where the young hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, continues his journey to help reclaim the dwarves’ rightful home.

A major theme in this movie is to never give up. This is because the 13 dwarves and Bilbo Baggins never give in when they are on their very dangerous journey to take back the Lonely Mountain from the evil dragon Smaug.

“The first ‘Hobbit’ was good and exciting, but I think the second one will be better,” said fifth grader Finn Cork.

I definitely agree because I saw the movie, and it was much better.

Fifth grader Tommy Roche said, “As far as I can tell, I think the second one will be as good or worse.”

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is about Bilbo and the company of dwarves’ dangerous adventure through Mirkwood and Laketown in order to  face their greatest enemy, Smaug. Bilbo must find his courage and battle Smaug, and at the same time, help his dwarvish friends reclaim their home.

Logan Muller, a fifth grader, said, “I think the movie will be worse because the first one gives you most of the information, so the second won’t be as good.”

I disagree with that because the first one was very boring. A third of the first film is just at Bilbo’s house and not on the adventure. Those are my thoughts on the movie. I would definitely recommend going to see this movie.
