Prince of middle school’s ‘Cinderella’ talks about how he got into acting

PMS — It seems the Pelham Middle School theater club likes princesses, as they did “Cinderella” this year to follow on the story of Ariel last year.

Playing the prince once again was Nick Wessman and playing Cinderella was Maggie Solimine. Based on last year’s play,  everyone who went to “Cinderella” expected the play to be good. A lot of the kids in last year’s play are in this one too and many more have joined.

This reporter caught up with Nick Wessman as he was making his pre-show tea. “It helps soothe my throat so I’m ready to sing for my plays.”

He said he was “thrilled” to be the prince two years in a row. “I love going to the rehearsals. It’s a lot of fun.”

Nick has wanted to be in plays since he was very young. “Ever since I was little, I have enjoyed watching plays,” he said. “After every play I watched, I wanted to try it. Acting comes with singing, and it’s a lot of fun to do your best when you’re singing. I wanted to try that, but I still have a lot to learn.”

“I always get nervous before plays. It’s ironic, but when I get on stage, I ‘m comfortable.”
