Colonial students are excited about lunch-time enrichment courses

COLONIAL CLASSROOMS — Winters can be boring sometimes as one cannot play outdoors during recess times. That’s not true for Colonial students. Every year, the Colonial School PTA organizes the lunch-time enrichment courses for the students.

There are twenty different courses being offered this year for K-5 students. Some of the courses being offered include Mad Science: Looney Life Labs, Painting, Chess for Girls, Musical Theater, Quilting, Violin, Guitar, Yoga, Magic, Architecture, Cartooning, Lego Mindstorms Nxt Robotics Engineering, Math  Club for Boys and Girls and Girls Hair Accessories.

The second graders have the maximum amount of options for lunch time enrichment this year. Quilting and Piano are some of the newly introduced courses. No one should be surprised to hear that most boys are interested in Lego Mindstorms Nxt Robotics Engineering and the girls want Musical Theater and Girls Hair Accessories classes.

Andrew Kelly (4M) is going to do Lego Mindstorm Nxt Robotics Engineering. “I’m excited for my first class,” he said. This class will teach him how to build and program LEGO Mindstorm NXT robots. In addition, it will introduce basic programming concepts such as repeat loops and if/ then statements.

“I’m having a good time,” said Malia McLellan (4M), who is enrolled in cartooning. She will learn how to draw her favorite movie/TV cartoon characters  and create her own with Teacher Michael Teator. She had her first class on Dec. 6.

It seems like Colonial kids are going to have a great winter where they will be learning while having fun at the same time. Many thanks to the Colonial PTA.
