Fifth graders seek litter-less lunch with Bash the Trash project

COLONIAL CAFETERIA — Bash the Trash is a program about trying to achieve a litter-less lunch every day.

“The idea is for fifth graders to give back to the school and be proactive about recycling,” said Mrs. Simpson, the founder of Bash the Trash.

From today until Feb. 6, 11 fifth graders will be patrolling tables at lunch helping the younger kids sort their trash. The Science Barge came to Colonial on Jan. 22 to inform the school about Bash the Trash and the three R’s (reuse, reduce and recycle).

Some other things the Science Barge talked about were composting, pollution and how to put the three R’s in effect. The goal is to cut down the amount of trash the school accumulates each day.
