Winifred Armstrong, a former Colonial student, told students to thank teachers for what they learn in classrooms like this.

CLASSROOM 4G — Ms. Jacy Gerhardt, a fourth grade teacher at the school, has been teaching for 20 years and has had many different grades and classes.

“I love it,” Ms. Gerhardt said of her career as an educator at Colonial. “It’s like a second family to me, and I love the staff and kids.” She said her favorite unit to teach in all the grades she worked in and in any subject is the force and motion science unit in fourth grade.

Was there ever a time Ms. Gerhardt wanted to quit? “No. Sometimes I don’t want to get out of bed, but I love my job.” She also said she thought teaching was what she was meant to do in life.

Her favorite grades to teach are fourth grade and second grade. She likes fourth grade because it has cool projects and activities and because the fourth graders are independent and are able to have great discussions during class.

Ben Blake, a student who is in Ms. Gerhardt’s class, said he liked Ms. Gerhardt because she is very nice and she is a great teacher.

Kate Kapplow and Skyler Austin, both students in her class, said she teaches very well. They said Ms. Gerhardt is very nice.

Brewer Anderson, also in 4G, agreed she is nice, and he enjoys how Ms. Gerhardt teaches.
