COLONIAL GYM โ€” Studies have shown that out of the 270 million tons of plastic produced each year, 10 percent ends up in oceans. Plastic bottles, which make up a portion of that pollution, are a part of Colonial’s lunch selection.

“I think we should keep plastic bottles,” said Charles Perreten. “We just need to moderate the amount we waste.”

Others disagree.

“I don’t think we should have plastic bottles because it wastes plastic and it ends up in the ocean,” said Iris Kaplan. “Many people just think that we should just not use them that much. But we should just not waste them in the first place.”

In the ocean, plastic bottles have been the cause of countless deaths of sea life. An estimate of 100,000 marine creatures die each year. To add to that, approximately one million seabirds are killed each year. Factories that produce the bottles also pollute the air.

“We shouldn’t have plastic bottles,” said Laighton Austin. “We are doing the earth a favor by not wasting resources. And not polluting is the right thing to do.”
