COLONIAL SCHOOL — In January, a new project started for the Colonial Student Government, the annual food drive. All the canned or boxed foods will be sent to a Mount Vernon homeless shelter.

The Student Government is organizing the collection with the teachers union, said Food Drive Chairman Will Russello.

The advertisements for the drive include posters around the school, announcements on the loudspeaker, emails to the parents and a flyer that got sent home.

Some of the most common foods donated include pasta, beans and jello. There was about one full bin on Jan. 30.

Ms. Kim Norman, Student Government advisor, “didn’t really tell us the goal, but more than a bin full,” said Sean McGovern.

Government members working on the drive are Russello, Co-Chairman Sean McGovern, Audrey Davis, Noah Sherbansky, Luke Dolan and Heather Reische.
