COLONIAL SCHOOL — Kindergarten teacher Jo Ann Hintzen is retiring at the end of the year after teaching for 30 years at Colonial School and 33 years in all.

Mrs. Hintzen said she will come back every so often to visit all of her friends and students here at Colonial. She said she will miss the students.

Mrs. Hintzen has seen changes over the years in what students are able to do. “I think that kids are all the same thing—curious, smart, friendly and kind,” she said. “But technology has changed kids. They now have a harder time cutting or even writing.”

“I don’t know what I will do (in retirement), but I hope I can take cooking classes and travel places I have not been,” she said. “I will also watch more of my son’s baseball games because usually I am busy.”

“There has been construction three times” while she worked at the school, she said.  “When I first started, there was about 175 kids now there is about 300.”
