Read-A-Thon is getting students to read a lot and raising funds

The Read-A-Thon is a fundraiser for Colonial School.

Every kid received a folder and a bracelet. Every folder contained papers for recording reading time. Every Friday, students returned the folder and the class parents added up the minutes,

The Read-A-Thon was great because kids were telling her how many minutes they read, Mrs Wilson said.

After students hand in the folder, they can earn badges for reading certain amounts of minutes. The badges go in order of how many minutes read.  These are the badges: 100, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000.

“I think it’s a great fundraiser, and the teachers like it,” said PTA President Mary Hefner.

As of Jan. 26, the Read-A-Thon had raised $20,000 for cultural arts programs at Colonial, according to the Growl, the newsletter of the Colonial PTA.
