Week 2 rec soccer report: girls grades 3 and 4

Real Madrid 3 – Sao Paolo 0

Under the bright lights of Glover field Friday night, Grace Liberatore scored two goals and Elianna Bryan one in between with assists by Catherine Taubner. Brianna Connolly was strong in goal while Erin McPartland, Eliza Bratone, Miranda Barrett and Genevieve Howell rounded out the defensive hold verse the Sao Paolo team. Alena Sober and Juliana O’Connor led long runs up the field for Sao Paolo only to be turned aside at the last second. The strong defense led by Giovanna Vitale and Amanda Boiano and the stone wall goal tending of Katie Heaney kept a short-handed Sao Paolo in a game that was tight until the end.

River 3 – Real Madrid 1

River played a great game for all four quarters late Saturday afternoon.  Two games in two days for Real Madrid and the lone goal for the team was scored by Grace Liberatore with Nya Haseley, Dominique Vacca, Catherine Taubner, Elianna Bryan and Lila Caminiti adding strong offense and defense throughout the competition.  Claudia Scampoli was on fire controlling the middle of the field with her amazing dribbling skills.  Natasha Sarcinella was tough on defense in addition to having keys saves as goalie.  River’s goals were scored by Solee West, Brett Bober and Isabelle Anderson.

Juventus 3 –  Bordeaux 3

It was a very close game between Team Bordeaux and Team Juventus.  The lightening fast Julia O’Neil scored two goals for Juventus.  Daly Walsh also scored a goal for Juventus, with an assist by Kayleigh DiNatale. In the last two minutes of the game Lynn Dvorkin made an exciting goal to tie the game at 3-3 for Bordeaux. Cameron Montanarella, Brianna Vinci and Carynn Williams were great on defense and Emily Maher made several amazing saves in the goal.  Thanks to a great defensive move by Haley Wall, Bordeaux was prevented from scoring a final goal and the game ended in a tie.

Manchester City 3 – Inter Milan 0

Manchester City and Inter Milan played a tight match which was tied 0-0 at the half despite constant offensive pressure from Man City’s Ali Milanese and Nadia Nitollano.  Ann Hurd was an offensive force; scoring all three goals for Manchester City.  Casey Walsh and Stevie Gristina anchored MC’s defense denying Inter Milan’s attack.  Isabella DiPalermo played a strong defense as center full back keeping Manchester City in check. Jenna Carotenuto through solid passing helped to control the midfield. Annika Jawanda through great ball handling got off several shots on goal.

AS Roma 5 – Barcelona 3

AS Roma battled to their first win of the season against a strong Barcelona squad. Brooke Hoeltge proved an offensive force with four goals. Grayce Cooper patrolled the midfield and added a blast to the net of her own. Claire Hoeltge provided determined defense, repeatedly snuffing Barcelona’s many surges. Olivia and Isabelle Berkery were fearless in their respective tries in goal. Ava Knapp had two goals, and Charlotte Howard added a goal on penalty kick, enabling Barcelona to stay with a powerful AS Roma team through three quarters. Katie D’Angelo made several nice plays at mid-field, and Jasmine Zaman had some nice rushes. Catherine Lapey held AS Roma scoreless in her two quarters as goalie, and Rory Gerhardt created a couple of scoring opportunities that nearly paid off.

Sao Paolo 2 – Bayern Munich 0

Bayern Munich played hard in a 2-0 loss to Sao Paolo. Emma Hupprich, Caroline Spana and Stephanie Elmer led Bayern Munich’s offense with some great passes and several scoring opportunities.  Bayern Munich played tough defense with Julia Corso, Morgan Mclean and Lilly Baxter making some terrific saves.  Sao Paolo opened the scoring early on the strong left foot of Maria Comerford after a beautiful centering feed from Juliana Cortale. Maria scored again in the second period on a connection from Elizabeth Comerford.   Hallie Meyerson and Georgia Connolly were key to a strong team defensive effort in the second half to preserve the shutout against a spirited Bayern Munich.
