Week 3 rec soccer report: girls grade 3 and 4

Sao Paolo 4, Inter Milan 1
Sao Paolo raced to a torrid start against the determined Inter Milan with three first period goals by Maria Comerford supported by the forward play of Hallie Meyerson and the goal keeping of Elizabeth Comerford.  The final three quarters played to a draw with Maria’s fourth goal of the contest and the neat net play of Alena Sober, although a solid run by Halle Bourne nearly broke the game open.  Nell Plunkett dribbled through several defenders to score the first goal of the season for Inter Milan. Olivia DiPalermo played a solid goal saving many shots which kept the score close for much of the game. Lucy Edmunds anchored the defense with several key tackles.

River 5, AC Roma 2
River’s Pamela Pennetta started off with great moves in the middle of the field to create plays for her teammates. Emily Nakayama and Maddie Samaan showed their skills on the defensive side of the field with some key stops. Allison Brown opened up the game with the first goal and scored another goal during the second half of the game.  Claudia Scampoli added to her superior field play with a hat trick.  Brooke Hoeltge and Grayce Cooper battled mightily for AS Roma on offense, both scoring with impressive shots. Claire Hoeltge and Julia Davis provided stiff midfield and defensive coverage against a talented team River offense.

Bordeaux 3, Barcelona 1
Bordeaux beat Barcelona 3-1. Bordeaux goals were scored by Lynn Dvorkin (2) and Emma Carew. Juliana Prisco applied constant offensive pressure and Cameron Montanarella was terrific on defense. Emily Maher was all over the field showing tremendous hustle and determination.  Barcelona’s Charlotte and Catie Woods both had strong games, contributing both in goal and on the field with nice passing. Katie D’Angelo and Anna Shampanier-Bowen both made several nice plays on defense to thwart strong Bordeaux attacks. Catherine Lapey scored to cut the Bordeaux lead to one in the third quarter, and Rory Gerhardt made a nice save in goal to keep the game close in the fourth quarter

Juventus 2, Bayern Munich 1
Bayern Munich took the lead with a goal in the first quarter by Lilly Baxter with help from Grace Aronson and Rachel Elmer.  Munich held on to the lead, despite a relentless push from Juventus, spearheaded by Kayleigh DiNatale. In the four quarter, the persistence of the Juventus offense paid off with a goal from Julia O’Neil. That was quickly followed by a second goal, this time from Ava Shotkoski. Emma Potter played valiantly in defense while Daly Walsh helped keep the pressure on for Juventus with great offensive work.  Bayern Munich’s Emma Hupprich made some great saves in goal while Morgan Mclean, Elizabeth Epes and Julia Corso turned away several attacks.

Manchester City 3, Real Madrid 1
Manchester City was victorious, playing four strong quarters in the heat of the Sports Underdome Saturday afternoon.  Anna Hurd got MC on the scoreboard early in the first quarter and added a second tally late in the game.  Casey Walsh also found the back of the net for MC on a dazzling drive.  Alexis Cornachio, Madison Popovic and Shannon Gardner were solid on defense denying the Real Madrid attack.  Real Madrid’s lone goal was scored by Grace Liberatore with Catherine Taubner, Eliza Bratone, Nya Haseley, Dominique Vacca assisting. Elianna Bryan was amazing on defense and in goal – blocking numerous shots.
