What does winter prevent? Colonial kids say sports, scootering and ‘smelling flowers’

COLONIAL SCHOOL — Winter is preventing kids from doing many things. In interviews, many people said that winter mostly prevented sports.

Some sports that winter ruins for kids are swimming, lacrosse and soccer. These things you can, of course, play indoors, but the students said that it just isn’t the same. People said that swimming especially is frustrating to do during the frigid weather because the water is freezing.

Morgan Mclean (5V) said, “I hate swimming in the winter, and I love it in the summer.” Morgan also had an opinion on lacrosse: “Winter lacrosse is in the Underdome, and I hate the Underdome.”

But it’s not just sports that winter prevents kids from doing. Other activities include playing hotspotch, climbing on the playground, going to the beach, biking and scootering. The worst weather that will stop you from doing these things is snow.

Olivia of class KH said that winter stops her from “smelling flowers.”

However, there are other things you can do in the winter that you can’t do in any other season. Examples include sledding, roasting marshmallows around the fireplace, building snowmen and having snowball fights.
