Fourth graders excited about upcoming field trip to play at Carnegie Hall

COLONIAL — The fourth graders are about to take a field trip to Carnegie Hall and many are excited.

Sabine Bushong said she’s looking forward to the trip because “we’ll get to play recorders in front of a lot of people.” She said she loves recorder and playing for people.

“I’ve never been to Carnegie Hall before and it will be fun,” said Jada Baez.

Carnegie Hall was founded by Andrew Carnegie on May 5, 1891. Many people have played there, including Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Louis Armstrong.

Colonial’s music teacher, Ms. Ann-Louise Glasser, said her favorite song that the fourth graders will be playing is “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Her favorite part of the trip is “getting to see the orchestra, dancers, singers and getting to play along.”

The trip will start at 8:30 a.m., when the fourth graders head straight to the buses. Once they arrive, they will go to the main auditorium.

It is “so cool because all the famous musicians have played there,” Ms. Glasser said. Her favorite musician that played at Carnegie Hall is Leonard Bernstein.

Carnegie Hall will be, as Ms. Glasser explained, packed with kids and their recorders. The students will stay at Carnegie Hall until noon.

Tom Cabiniss is a composer and leading arts educator at Carnegie hall. He also works in a lot of other places such as Juilliard. He got his bachelors in music from Yale. Mr. Rami Vamos, Colonial’s other music teacher, knows Tom as a friend.
