1ST GRADE CLASSROOMS — The first graders did not go to “The Nutcracker” this holiday season.

“The Nutcracker” is a play or ballet where a girl wakes up to find mice and toys are bigger than life. She gets tormented by a rodent ruler. However, helping her is the Nutcracker Prince, who protects her from the evil mouse. There is also a Sugarplum Fairy.

I don’t want to see the Nutcracker because it has mice, and I don’t like mice or the dancing people.”

— Keith Kerman

“Unfortunately, Suny Purchase is not putting on ‘The Nutcracker’ this year,” said Ms. Kathryn Castellano, a first grade teacher. “I feel sad that we are not going this year, as it has been a first grade tradition for a very long time. I honestly don’t know (when). It began way before I started here in 2001.”

“I feel sad,” said first grader Kiri Angeri

“I don’t want to see the Nutcracker because it has mice, and I don’t like mice or the dancing people,” said Keith Kerman, another first grader. “I just hate the land of the sweets.”
