MAUI, HAWAII — Summer vacations are already here. Many of you must have already reserved your vacation destination. If you are still wondering about where to go, I would recommend Hawaii. Recently I went to Maui, one of Hawaii’s six islands. It was the best vacation I ever had.

If you are a nature lover, Maui is the best vacation destination, as you can experience volcanoes, dazzling waterfalls, beautiful white sand beaches, rain forests, tropical gardens, the sunrise and the sunset at the Haleakala Mountain peak, and hiking through natural wonders. If you are a sports lover, Maui offers that too. You can indulge in many water adventures like surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing and canoeing. If you are not a water person, there is always horseback riding, and you can enjoy helicopter rides and zip line tours. Besides nature and sports, the island is culturally unique in many ways. You can experience the Polynesian art and culture by visiting museums and attending the traditional Hawaiian party known as luau.

Most of the resorts on Maui are on the western coast, with just one resort on the eastern side. The western side has many world famous beaches like Ka’anapali Beach. We stayed at the Kapalua Resort, which is located on the northwest side of Maui. It had beautiful golf courses and the best beach for surfing.

On the second day of my vacation, my parents and I drove to the Haleakala Mountain peak to see the sunrise and the crater. The drive itself was very scenic, and the sunrise view was spectacular. At the top, the temperature was surprisingly cold for Hawaii. My advice is if you ever go to see the sunrise at Haleakala’s peak: go with warm clothes and many, many blankets. And if you are not a morning person, you can enjoy the sunset view, which is equally as good.

Another amazing experience is a luau, a Hawaiian party or feast that has traditional music and dance performances. I went to the “Drums of the Pacific” luau. I liked it because I was called up on stage along with other kids to perform the hula, a traditional Hawaiian dance form. I also enjoyed watching the fire dancers because the tricks they did were breathtaking.

Next day, we went on a journey through the Road to Hana. Along the road we came across beautiful landscapes and waterfalls. The road was so curvy that it seemed almost impossible to drive. We stopped at gardens on our way to experience the tropical flora. I got to see the valley where the creators of the “Jurassic Park” movie shot a scene.

The most exciting activity in my trip was snorkeling. Snorkeling is AMAZING! I went to Molokini Island for snorkeling because that has the clearest water for seeing all kinds of fish and coral reefs even green sea turtles. It was a once-in-a-life-time experience for me.

This was certainly a great trip for me and I look forward to visiting Hawaii again.
