On Friday May 2, 2025 Team USA Paralympic gold medalist Steve Serio came to Colonial. He is renowned for being the GOAT of wheelchair basketball. He did a lot of stuff with us like shooting hoops with us, getting interviewed, and showing us his gold medal and GOAT pin.
Other things we did with Steve was touch his gold medal and he compared himself to LeBron James. The gold medal was very special because it had a piece of the Eiffel Tower in it. Now let’s hear from some of the students who met Steve. Jordan in 4G said, “ I really liked it because I like basketball.” Lilah in 4G said, “It was very interesting because I got to touch his gold medal and hear his story.”
Steve was a big hit. The students were very excited when they saw him. He was very inspiring. He also talked about his disability. He said even if he had a disability he could still succeed. Many students thought he was very cool. A lot of students thought it was the best assembly ever. Students really want something like that next year.
