Pelham Holds a Community Clean-Up for Earth Day!

On Earth day, April 22nd all the schools in Pelham were invited to participate in a community clean-up day followed by a celebration at the Gazebo Park. The celebration was from 12:00- 3:00, which included live music, food, giveaways and student demonstrations.

Here are what some Colonial students that went to the clean-up had to say, Abby Harriss said, “It felt good to be helping the earth!” Brooke Gatto says, “The after party of the clean-up was really fun! They had free lemonade in disposable cups and no plastic straws because plastic straws hurt the environment. They had paper cups that you could paint. After you were done with painting you got a free plant to put in it!”  Penny Garvett says, ” It was good for the environment, and at the same time it was fun!” Penny is not the only one who thinks that, Stella Yanofsky thinks the same! She said, “It was fun to walk around town with your friends and be helping the environment at the same time!”  Overall many people were eager to help the earth!

There are many benefits to reducing; reusing, recycling trash, and composting your and many other people’s food scraps. One benefit is that composting food scraps prevents those same food scraps from ending up in a landfill or being burned in an incinerator. Reducing, reusing, and recycling plastics prevent oceans from becoming polluted.

In conclusion, The Earth Day cleanup was good for the environment , and the after party was really fun. Pelham is glad to help Earth and will always be there to help it. The Earth Day clean-up helped Earth and the after party celebrated our Earth.
