On the twelfth of February Chenxi Jiao otherwise known as CC hosted an online Lunar New Year cooking class where people were able to make dumplings in the comfort of their home, and even learn more about our Lunar New Year calendar.
This year people participating in this event made dumplings with guidance from CC using some of the following ingredients: ground pork, chives, carrots, spinach, oyster sauce, scallion, and a little bit of salt. Then after mixing that all together we put the mixture into a dumpling wrapper, pan-fried it, and then finally let it cool. Ben from 5P said “ It was a good experience to learn more about the chinese culture.”
While we were pan-frying our dumplings, our host read us a book about how the Lunar New Year calendar was formed. According to the book, the Lunar New Year calendar was determined by a race, and the animal rat won by deceiving the other animals.
Overall the cooking class was a very fun experience, and Ben from 5P said “ It was a good experience to learn more about Chinese culture.” And by the end of the class we were left with delicious Lunar New Year treats. We hope to see you next year at the Lunar New Year cooking class!
