The 2023 Daytona 500 Winner Named After Big Crash

On February 19th, 2023 the Daytona 500 had 42 teams compete for the trophy at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida!

Last year, Austin Cindric won the Daytona 500 for team Penske with the Ford Manufacturing team. But this year was totally different. The first 100 laps out of 212 in this year’s Daytona were pretty much the same but on the final lap there was a massive crash on the final turn . Almost half the drivers were wiped out in that crash. Meanwhile, Joey Logano and Rickey Stenhouse jr were able to make it through the crash.

Logano and Stenhouse raced to the line and it looked like Stenhouse beat Logano to the finish line. But it wasn’t official yet, according to Nascar rules the winner of the race in a situation like this is decided by whoever was in first place when the crash happened. Nascar officials looked at the replay and it looked like Rickey Stenhouse jr had beat Joey Logano by less than a second. Stenhouse’s Pit crew celebrated and so did he. Rickey Stenhouse jr celebrated his 8th career Nascar victory and first Daytona 500 win! After a 3 hour race 530 miles and 212 laps.
